Veneers
Veneers are used to improve the surface of crooked, misshaped, chipped, unevenly spaced and stained teeth. Made of porcelain (and sometimes plastic), veneers are thin white layers that are cemented to the tooth by a dentist to improve the shape and color of teeth. The process of applying veneers is virtually painless and the procedure very rarely requires any kind of sedation. Porcelain veneers are very desirable because of a much higher resistance to tobacco smoke and coffee stains than dental bonding offers. In that way, veneers not only improve flawed teeth but also prevent discoloration.
A highly qualified dental lab technician from All Smile Dental will custom make your veneers according to the dentist's specifications and are permanent because of the irreversible process used to apply them. The dentist will remove a tiny amount of your tooth's enamel to apply the veneer shell. In addition to stains, chips, crooked and misshaped teeth, porcelain veneers are an ideal solution for dental defects like damage done after an emergency accident corresponding with a serious injury, the negative effects of a root canal, and are great for helping people hide their colored fillings. Unlike some other cosmetic remedies, veneers are a great solution for chipped and gap teeth as well as a more permanent whitening solution. Partial veneers cover only a portion of the tooth - known as partial veneer crowns - and are a good way to restore damaged teeth.
The process of getting porcelain veneers on your teeth will usually take at least three dental visits. You'll need to come in to All Smile Dental for a complete diagnosis and to make a comprehensive treatment plan, then in another visit your teeth will be prepared for the procedure, and the final step will be the actual application and bonding of the porcelain veneers to your teeth.
Preparation for the procedure, once a diagnosis has been made and treatment plan agreed upon, is a little more extensive than a regular visit to the dentist, lasting more than an hour on average. Teeth are thoroughly, but gently buffed to accommodate the future veneer. When some of the tooth needs to be removed, usually only half of a millimeter or less is removed, sedation or local anesthetic may be used. For many people, however, no preparation or very minimal preparation is needed before applying porcelain veneers. Once the teeth have been prepared, the dentist or dental technician will take a model of your teeth to create the veneers.
After the preparation of your teeth, the next visit to All Smile Dental will be to have your veneers bonded and the procedure will be complete. This visit will take at least an hour, as the dentist carefully fits the veneers and assesses the color of the surrounding teeth and tries to make it look as natural as possible. Once the veneers are ready and the proper shade, the teeth are cleaned with special chemicals to help them bond to the veneers. An adhesive cement is used to attach the veneer to the tooth, and then a painless laser or light beam is used to dry harden the cement. A follow-up appointment in a week or two is needed to be sure that the veneers were attached successfully
